Courses approved by COPE may also be used to satisfy the continuing education requirement, except for the "Ethics/Jurisprudence" [EJ] or [JP], "Public Health" [PB] and "Practice Management" [PM] categories.

How to submit a course for review.


CONTINUING OPTOMETRIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR OREGON OPTOMETRIC PHYSICIANS:
~ As a condition of a timely license renewal, eighteen (18) hours of approved continuing optometric education must be completed and reported to the Board no later than the first day of the licensee's birthmonth.
~ At least 9 hours of the required hours per license year must be in the area of diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular disease.
~ At least 1 hour of the required hours every other license year must be in the area of optometric ethics or Oregon optometry law and administrative rules. This hour must be approved by the Board. The COPE category of "Ethics" (EJ) is not approved unless otherwise approved by the Board.
~ No more than 9 hours of coursework may be earned for online, journal, correspondence or video courses per license year.


Credit will be given for up to five (5) hours of live observation in a surgical facility per license year. The surgical facilities approved to conduct observation of procedures for COE credit are as follows:
